Gatineau family likely died after carbon monoxide poisoning, police say
GATINEAU, Que. – Police suspect three people found dead in a home in the western Quebec city of Gatineau succumbed to carbon monoxide poisoning.
The bodies of a couple in their 60s and a woman in her 40s were found in the home on Wednesday afternoon in the city’s Buckingham sector.
Neighbours identified the three as Jean-Paul Vallee and his wife, Pauline, and one of their daughters.
Police found a generator in the garage that was out of fuel and still hot.
The area had been hit with a power outage in the hours leading up to the discovery of the bodies.
Police are investigating to see whether the generator was responsible for a release of the odourless, colourless and tasteless gas.
Gatineau police spokeswoman Isabelle Poirier says autopsies are to be performed on the bodies.
